Returning Home to Where the Wild Things Grow

There’s something quietly powerful about starting again; not from scratch, but from a place of growth. With soil still under your nails, stories tucked in your pocket, and a heart that just knows the way.

After years of flowering, wandering, and learning, Flora in the Wild has finally come home. My new studio, nestled here in Maketu, feels like the softest exhale — a space filled with light, intention, and the kind of peace that only comes from doing what you love.

It’s hard to put into words how much this space means to me. There’s a calm here. A stillness that wraps around me as I create. I feel completely at home, surrounded by the soft rustle of old fruit trees, the scent of fresh blooms, and the beauty of wild things just doing what they’re made to do — grow.

I began this journey during one of the most tender, unraveling seasons of my life. Floristry was never just about flowers — it became something to hold onto when everything else felt like it was falling apart. In the quiet moments of creating, I found small pieces of myself again.

Though in all honesty, there were many times I had to step away — to rest, to heal, to simply breathe. But the flowers waited. And when I was ready, they welcomed me back with open arms, like old friends who always knew I’d return.

Now, with hands that have weathered so much and a heart that’s steadier than before, I feel the joy of it all returning. Not just as a way to survive — but as something sacred, something deeply mine. Something I can share from a place of strength.

And this new chapter in Maketu?

It feels like a wild garden finally finding its sun.

Here, in this little studio, I’ll be making florals that speak of romance and natural beauty — fresh and dried blooms, heartfelt gift boxes, seasonal workshops, and (soon) homegrown flowers from my slowly growing backyard flower patch.

More than anything, I want you to feel something when you step into this space — whether in person or through a bunch of flowers sent your way. I want you to feel inspired by the wildness, comforted by the softness, and caught up in the quiet magic that flowers always seem to bring.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being here.

This is only the beginning — and I can’t wait to share it with you.

With love,

Shirelle x
